Willits Community Theatre's Gateway to the Stage Summer Camp begins on Monday June 26 and will last through Sunday August 6. There will be five weeks of rehearsal and instruction and two weeks of performances, with shows on July 28, 29 and 30 and on August 3, 4, 5, and 6.
The camp sessions will take place Mondays thru Thursdays, from 1 pm to 4 pm. at the auditorium at Willits High School.
This year the camp will be directed by Tim Fischer, who was primary stage director of last summer’s musical Annie, Jr. For this year’s camp production, Mr. Fischer has selected A Midsummer Night's Dream, the classic Shakespearean comedy, adapted by Ken Womble. This adaptation is condensed, without losing the passion, humor, and magic that have made the play an audience favorite for six centuries. In its adapted form, the play moves quickly, making it ideal for middle and high school actors and audiences.
The timeless story remains the same. Four young friends, two men and two women, are all in love, but with the wrong people. They chase each other in a fantasy world, a forest filled with fairies, donkeys, and love potions. Their journey makes for an outrageous romp that advances perfectly to climactic disaster, then masterfully ends in a triple wedding – the original trifecta. With Shakespeare's beautiful blend of reality and fantasy, you'll never want to waken from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
There is room in the camp for 35 children. All children and young people from 6 to 18 years old are invited to attend.
Cost of the camp is $250 for one child. Each additional sibling of the first child who is accepted into the camp may enter the camp for a fee of $125. Some scholarships are available and requests for consideration can be submitted on the sign-up form.
To enroll your child in the camp please go online, starting May 1st, to the Willits Community Theatre website at wctperformingartscenter.org, then go to “Summer Camp”, and fill out your application.
